This red Drone, which I haven't devised a catchy name for, could probably be found anywhere in the Culture's sphere of influence. As, like all Drones, it is a sentient machine capable of independant thought and reasoning.
Inbetween doing scientific research, tectonic mapping or updating stellar cartography,  it has it's own interest and hobbies, (Yes, Drones have hobbies!) that it would occupy it's downtime with.
